Cathy DeMers, M.Ed.

Director

Cathy earned a Master's degree in Special Education in the area of social/emotional development and a Bachelor's degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education from the University of Arizona. She is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and she has over 35 years of teaching and administrative experience in both the public and private sector. Cathy lived in Highland Park, Illinois and worked for the North Suburban Special Education District for 17 Years before relocating back to Tucson in 2001. She worked as a preschool teacher where she met Susie Vincent (Founder of ISP) and helped start International School for Peace in 2004. Cathy enjoys exploring & hiking in beautiful Tucson with her husband Gerry and visiting her daughter Grace in Chicago and her daughter Laura in Pittsburgh

Khylia Marshall

Administrative Assistant

Khylia moved to Tucson 16 years ago to attend the University of Arizona, fell in love, and never left!  She earned her Bachelor's degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, and her Post-Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education. After teaching high school on the Pascua Yaqui Reservation for four years, she had her first child and chose to stay at home to raise her. While doing so, she occasionally taught as a substitute for TUSD and discovered a love for the eagerness and sincerity of younger students. She is proud to say that her youngest child is an International School for Peace graduate! When not spending time with her family, Khylia enjoys dancing, cooking, and book clubbing! 

Martha Suarez

Custodian

Martha was born in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexicao. She relocated to Tucson forty years ago and lives here with her husband, Alexandro. Martha has three grown children, Alex, Zulema, and Alexis. She enjoys taking walks, watching TV and movies, and shopping at the mall. 

Maricruz Southern

2's Partial Spanish Immersion 

Lead Teacher

Maricruz was born in Guanajuato, Mexico in a very family-oriented environment.  She earned a Bachelor Degree in Clinical Psychology at the Autonomous University of Queretaro where she worked as a psychologist and as a lead teacher for eight years with children aged 2 to 4 years-old.  She also worked as counselor for a year before heading to the USA.  Once in this country she volunteered at Dietz Elementary School, were she enjoyed working with first and second graders from around the world who were getting introduced to the English language.  She later worked as a Spanish teacher at Satori and as a math tutor for TUSD.  Maricruz took a break to go back to school earning a Master’s Degree in Language, Reading, and Culture with emphasis in Early Childhood at the U of A while working in a law office.  She enjoys working with young children the best because of their capacity to learn new things and be amazed.  For Maricruz, teaching is about developing in children a love for learning and inquiring.  In her free time, Maricruz enjoys working out, reading, and listening to music.  Most of all, she loves spending time with her family: her husband and children, daughter, and son.

Gabby Grijalva

Gabby graduated from Pima Medical Institute as a certified Medical Assistant. She then learned that her love for children was greater and began her training in Montessori education.  She taught for several years in a Montessori School in Tucson. Gabby was born and raised in Douglas Arizona, a small border town a few hours away from Tucson. Spanish was the main language spoken among her family and friends. She is also a mother to an adorable little boy who she loves and cares for very much. Gabby has grown to be very family oriented with an immense love for children and others. After starting her career at ISP as our lead aftercare teacher, Ms. Gabby's is excited to spend a second year as a teacher assistant in our 2's partial immersion class.

Holli Kent is a native Tucsonian. She grew up on the Saint Francis campus attending church with her grandmother. Holli began training as an EMT and is a licensed massage therapist. Holli is excited for her second year at International School for Peace. She believes that kids are fun to hang out with and to learn from - they open her eyes to different possibilities. When she’s not at work, Holli enjoys reading, playing video games, drawing, playing the violin, and making soap!

Natalie Grenados-Vasquez

Natalie was born in Los Angeles, California. She was raised in Mexico, and in 2003, she moved to the United States. Natalie discovered she loved being around kids after working with one to two year-olds and watching them reach their milestones. Natalie has over 3 years of experience working with children ranging from infants to 12 years old. She believes the most rewarding part of her job is being able to learn from her students. In her spare time, Natalie enjoys reading, sewing, yoga, and learning about the beauty of life. 

Carmen Rivero

Carmen is from Mexico. She moved to the United States in 2007. She is a certified Montessori Elementary Teacher and this is her 2nd year teaching at ISP. She has extended experience in early childhood education and she loves working with children. Carmen speaks Spanish, English and French. She loves cooking. In her free time Carmen enjoys swimming and being surrounded by her family and friends.


Lydia Seldner

Lydia was raised in Hermosillo, Sonora Mexico and received a professional degree in International Business Administration from Universidad De El Valle De Mexico, Hermosillo, Sonora Mexico.  She has extended experience in early childhood education. This is Lydia's 5th year working at International School for Peace as a Lead Language Enrichment Teacher. She started as a volunteer and assistant during the Spring of 2015. She is married and has a beautiful seven year-old daughter who enjoys spending time with her.  Lydia likes to play tennis, practice yoga, and is a fan of outdoor activities, but most of all she loves raising her daughter.

Farsi Enrichment Teacher

Nooshin was born in Iran and cherished her youth growing up with her family.  She graduated from the University of Tehran with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.  She taught in Tehran at an elementary & middle school & later served as the Assistant Principal of the middle school.  After marrying her husband, she moved to Tucson. Nooshin loved raising her daughter, Sara, at home.  When Sara started kindergarten, she volunteered to work at her school, Sunrise Elementary. Shortly after, she worked as a volunteer and later as a substitute teacher at ISP.  Within a short time she had an opportunity to work as an assistant teacher at ISP and has been a teacher here for 12 years!  Nooshin loves teaching and believes teaching is not a job, but a passion.

Paola Sagar

Lead Teacher

Paola is from Chile. She went to college there and obtained degrees in Learning Disabilities and Speech Pathology. She moved to the United States in January, 2001. Ms. Paola is married and has two boys (10 and 13 years old) and a dog named Shadow. She enjoys reading, gardening, running, and dancing! She's vegetarian, so she's always looking for some new recipes. This is Ms. Paola's 7th year at International School for Peace - a supportive community where we embrace children's curiosity for learning as well as their backgrounds. Ms. Paola not only believes that ISP is a wonderful place for children to learn, but for adults as well.

Zulma Nunez

Zulma was born and raised in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico. She moved to Tucson over 15 years ago and loves it here. Zulma has experience working with children at Bonillas Elementary School and Ventana Vista. Angelique is Zulma's seven year old daughter. Together, they love to read! When Zulma is not spending time with her family, you can find her at the gym.

Jane Pesqueira

Precare

Lead Teacher

Jane was born in Panama City, Panama. She and her family traveled abroad until she was 13 years old, and then moved to the United States. Jane and her husband, Art, have four children and seven grandchildren. Her passion was ballet and studied for her Bachelors of Fine Arts at the University of Arizona. Jane had a career as a ballerina and then retired to teach preschool. She has been a preschool teacher for 26 years and has taught at ISP since 2004. Jane feels lucky to have so many children in her life.

Lilia Niccum

2's Aftercare Teacher

Lilia’s unique background comes from growing up in a multi-cultural setting.  She was born and raised in Sonora Mexico. Her parents were U.S. citizens who owned a maquiladora on the border.  Although she moved to the U.S. while still young, she maintained dual citizenship for many years. Lilia holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish from San Francisco State University. Her natural bilingualism has allowed her to use Spanish throughout her career,  and she has always been motivated by jobs that allow her to educate and interact in a meaningful way with people, especially with children. In her leisure time Lilia enjoys hiking, cooking, reading, traveling and spending time with her family.

Alice Pringle

Multicultural Music Enrichment Teacher

Alice Pringle has lived in Tucson for over 20 years and has a BA in Music Performance & Music Education.  She likes to do International Folk Dancing & Global Chant. Alice has 3 grown children and has been teaching music movement to young children in Tucson & Minneapolis since 1972.

Jodi Gottlieb

Hebrew Enrichment Teacher

Jodi is so excited to be returning to ISP. Jodi was born and raised in Johnstown, PA and has a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. She moved to Tucson in 1992 and doesn't miss snow one bit! She has volunteered for many years in various preschools and elementary schools, she loves spending time with children and she enjoys watching them learn and grow. Jodi has two beautiful daughters and a wonderful husband who keep her very busy. She enjoys taking long walks, practicing yoga, and Zumba workouts. Jodi is forever grateful for all of the beautiful things that life has to offer.

Former ISP, now retired teacher, Ana Maria Noyes brings art enrichment with an emphasis on world-wide artists to select classes once a week.
